What Alder volunteers do.
Real people, real skills, real neighbourhoods.
The work
More than teaching bandages.
Alder volunteers are educators, organizers, and community builders. Some lead first aid sessions; others run outreach booths, design materials, coordinate events, or help behind the scenes. Every role shares one purpose: making sure more people across the Pacific West Coast know what to do when it matters most.
Teach & coach
Support first aid classes and free community coaching — demonstrating skills, guiding practice, and answering questions. Full training provided; you don't need to arrive as an expert.
Show up in the community
Staff outreach booths and pop-up education stations at neighbourhood events. You're often someone's first conversation about first aid — make it welcoming.
Build behind the scenes
Help design courses and children's books, create content, coordinate logistics, or lend professional skills — from design to data to photography.
Why it matters
A trained neighbour changes the odds.
In an emergency, professional help is minutes away — but a bystander is already there. Volunteers multiply that first link in the chain of survival, one trained community member at a time.
